INTRODUCTION
Short introduction, please click on the INDEX + titels to see my work.
My name is Gabi Koren and I currently study fashion design at the Amsterdam Fashion Institute.
As a child I was a ball of energy, my parents always encouraged me to express myself through art and making things.
My design process always begins with what’s around me. I draw inspiration from my surroundings—everyday moments, textures in nature, human interactions, even silence. I pay attention to the overlooked, the in-between, and let these impressions guide my ideas. I’m naturally curious, and that curiosity often pulls me toward the unexpected. I like to challenge what “normal” design looks like.
I’m not afraid to explore things that feel a little off, raw, or unconventional. That’s where I find the most exciting energy. I experiment a lot—with silhouettes, shapes, and especially fabric. I love manipulating materials, pushing them to behave differently, or giving them new meaning through structure or contrast. I see fabric not just as a surface, but as something alive that can be reshaped, layered, transformed.
At the same time, I think about function and feeling. I want my work to provoke, but also to connect. I question what fashion can say and how it can carry ideas forward. I find myself constantly shifting between intuition and concept.
I prefer to work sustainably—I'm always looking for ways to give new life to old materials, rethink waste, and find unexpected value in what's been forgotten or discarded. .
I'm still in the process of discovering who I am as a designer. That includes asking what kind of impact I want to make, how I can combine my interest biology and my interest in sustainability, and what I want people to feel when they experience my work. I don't think I have all the answers yet—but that's part of the point. I'm exploring. I'm experimenting. I'm building a voice, and this portfolio is a snapshot of where I am right now in that journey.
